Olvid Web allows you to use Olvid with a computer (Windows, macOS, Linux) in a web browser. Your Android compatible device (smartphone or tablet) will serve as a gateway.
iPhone iPad
Olvid Web is not compatible with iOS devices, but you can use Olvid on macOS, Windows and Linux computers.
Android
- Visit https://web.olvid.io in your web browser.
- Open Olvid on your Android device and tap (bottom middle button).
- Tap Scan and scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
- Wait for a 4 digit code to appear in your browser and enter it on your device.
Why another 4-digit code?
Connecting to a web client like Olvidâs requires creating a secure channel between your web browser and your Android device. For this to work regardless of the network configuration, this connection goes through a relay server (at Olvid, a WebSocket server) to which both devices are connected simultaneously.
If nothing was provided, it would be very easy for the relay server to make a âMan-in-the-middle attackâ and to eavesdrop on all exchanges between the browser and the Android device.
As with adding a contact in Olvid, the 4-digit code displayed in the browser and entered on your Android device ensures that the channel is secure and that no one can eavesdrop.

-
Make sure that a browser plug-in such as Dark Mode does not alter the display of the QR code connecting your computer to your device and thus prevents your device from scanning it. Disable this plug-in to check.
-
Check with your network administrator or ISP that no specific network restrictions or third-party applications are interfering. (Blokada, AdGuard can block all WebSocket connections and prevent connection to Olvid Web).
You can also use Olvid on macOS and Windows.
